University Turns Battleground : ABVP Protest Rocks Gujarat University Over ₹34 Crore Corruption Allegation

Campus shaken by massive uproar as students demand answers; special report

Ahmedabad | Metro Bureau : Gujarat University witnessed high drama on Monday after members of the ABVP staged a fierce protest over alleged financial irregularities in development works, claiming that nearly ₹34 crore remains unaccounted for. The agitation reportedly intensified to the point where the Vice-Chancellor had to leave the chamber amid sloganeering and mounting pressure from student leaders. Similar allegations of corruption and disruption have surfaced in past university controversies as well.

According to student representatives, the alleged discrepancies relate to construction projects, administrative contracts, and other infrastructure expenses. Protesters accused the administration of failing to provide a transparent audit trail and alleged that fake bills and inflated project costs may have been used to siphon public and student funds. The incident quickly escalated, with chants of “VC Go Back” echoing across the campus as security personnel and police stepped in to control the situation.

The protest has reignited a larger question over the use of student fee money and public funds in state universities. With Gujarat University already having faced past probes into financial irregularities and contract violations, the latest allegations have added to concerns over governance and accountability.

Students have demanded a high-level independent inquiry and warned that demonstrations will continue until the administration publicly discloses expenditure records and fixes responsibility. For thousands of students and parents, the controversy has now become a test of transparency in one of Gujarat’s most prestigious institutions.
